There is no straightforward DIY mechanic way of testing it other then reading the enhanced powertrain codes to see if it is in fault. I believe the fault is thrown when the DME doesn't receive a message from it for a certain period of time, which pretty much means Fault Thermostat. Most of the problem with the heater is because of the faulty thermostat. If your thermostat is not working then it fluctuates the temperature of the car. If it happens then it may be your fault thermostat. The thermostat failed in two ways: Fail Stuck Closed. Fail Stuck Open. 2. Turbocharger Failure & Wastegate Rattle. While the high-pressure fuel pump failure might sound like a disaster, Wastegate rattle is by far the worst most common N54 engine problem. Typically, Wastegate rattle requires two brand new turbochargers, which is very expensive if you aren’t still under warranty. If you have a search on google for BMW F30 Steering Knock its a very common issue. Yes I’m aware it’s an extremely common issue and have done plenty of research on it, but was wondering if BMW have actually found a permanent fix for the issue, rather than a temporary fix where the sound goes away for a couple of months then comes back. The reason for this is that I did not expect a premium car such as BMW would have this many problems, less than a year after the extend warranty expired. Calling the pistons weak isn't really accurate. They survive up to 600whp on the B58, so should survive to at least 400whp on a B48. I think the reason pistons are being called out is because the most common failure is the ringland at these higher power level instead of a bent rod. Appreciate 1.
