Other things to know, the fuel pump is brand new from a few months ago, an incorrect diagnosis of the same problem. I tested the battery and it's read 12.1 volts. I've also hooked up another car battery but still can't hear the fuel pump hum. Really hope it's as simple as the relay! Any other ideas are very welcome.
I got something like 4 volts off one ot the 2 skinny wires. These readings were with the key turned one notch with the dash lit up and also when cranking. Of course no noise is coming off the fuel pump when turning the key. The fuel giage shows 1/2 full when ingition switched on. I checked the inertia switch and jumped it out, no effect.

If the symbol remains on or illuminates whilst driving, this signifies a failure with ABS. Normal brakes will be unaffected during normal driving

Get Multiecuscan with compatible cables and check again. Do not worry if the car's not misbehaving and consuming more fuel than usual. My Fiat's got fueltrims ranging between -100% - +100% and car passes MOT with perfect emissions like of a new car so in my case it has to be false.

Both direction indicators switch off: Switch the ignition key to the STOP position: Switch the ignition key to the MAR position: The fuel cut-off system has been reset and the engine can be restarted
fuel cut off switch is usually under the passenger seat. not 100% sure its there on a mk2 punto, my girlfriend has a mk2 sporting and i cant remember seeing anything under the seat (i hoover under there at least once a week), but its the first place i'd look for the switch on any car.
